Pokemon of the Week - Emboar

Emboar
So for today's post, and this week's Pokemon of the Week, we have a 5th generation Pokemon this time! Introducing Emboar! This was my first Unova Starter of choice, and I really like that choice, honestly~ I mostly chose him because I loved the power, and he reminds me of a fiery version of the original Ganon, the Dark Beast.. |'3 My only regret of choosing him is that in have his Fighting-Type, and a Zoroark of Dark-Type, I couldn't use another fave of mines, which is Scraftly (Dark/Fighting)... Anyway, it's no biggy~ Enjoy~ :3

Overview:
Another good powerhouse as usual (though only my 2nd(?) favorite in the 5th Generation)! While a lot of people didn't like the whole Fire/Fighting Starter for 3 Generations in a row, all three have their good points. Emboar in particular has very nice HP, awesome Attack, and still great Special Attack! This may seem like overkill, but his Defenses are so-so (though the HP helps with that), and he is very, very slow. Again, think of a Ganondorf reference in Smash Bros. for the speed factor. Anyway, he boasts a great movepool for attacking, in both the Physical and Special spectrum. Overall, as long as you don't mind low Speed (*cough*TrickRoom*cough*), you'll love this sweeper of a Starter~!

Base Stats:
Hp -  110
Atk - 123
Def - 65
Sp.Atk - 100
Sp.Def - 65
Spd - 65

Movesets:
Emboar @ Leftovers

Ability: Blaze
EVs: 40 HP, 252 Atk, 216 Spd
Nature: Jolly
- Flare Blitz
- Flame Charge
- Earthquake
-Wild Bolt

This is a pretty nice set that I would like to use (though Ganon's Adamant, so I'll shift to another route)~ This set is not as often used on Emboar, as he usually exists to crush and obliterate his opponents, while slowly killing himself. This one acts more as a sweeper than a revenge killer. Leftovers helps well with his large HP, and helps to recover some of the damage that Flare Blitz and Wild Bolt will give you (and Head Smash, if you go that route). Jolly is used to cover this set's main point: using Flame Charge to raise Speed, then provide a good sweeper! After a couple Flame Charges, his Speed will be pretty nice, and he can attack more effectively. Flare Blitz is the standard STAB with recoil, after you start the sweep. With Emboar's humongous Attack power, this will work nicely. Earthquake gives nice coverage with it, and only a few Pokemon will resist it. Plus it take out many troublesome Pokemon. Wild Charge is somewhat of a filler. Any Fire-Type attacker knows the bane of which is a bulky Water-Type. Wild Charge takes care of that weakness, and Pokemon like Jellicent (who will annihilate this set and kill you with something like Surf or Scald, or the like. Overall, a very nice set~ You can use Life Orb here too, which will kill most Pokemon easier, but that includes your Emboar... o3o"

Emboar @ Leftovers/Life Orb

Ability: Blaze/Reckless
EVs: 252 HP, 252 Atk, 4 Def (0 Speed IVs)
Nature: Brave
- Flare Blitz
- Hammer Arm
- Head Smash
- Wild Bolt

Haha, this is one of my favorite sets, and works well with my "5th Gen Dream Team," if you can call it that~ |3 Well, more of a Dream Team for competitive, I guess. It works pretty well, along with another of my Pokemon here. And by the way, if you look at the stats and natures, you'll notice the curiously minimum Speed. This is because I chose this set as a Trick Room team member (though I used Blaze despite it being the worse of the two abilities, since at the time I was practicing for the Pokemon Video Game Division Master's Division ^^")~ Anyway, I really enjoyed using this in 5th Gen play, and I hope you do~! So to start off, I'll be clear. With Blaze, use Leftovers to keep yourself alive more, but with Reckless... yeah, you're already gonna be doing major damage to both sides of the attack, so a Life Orb will kill you faster, but guarantee that almost nothing can survive one of your recoil attacks! I mean... Reckless + High Base Power + Life Orb = Complete and Utter Destruction... It's almost scary, and with a Reckless set, very few Pokemon can counter it, actually. o3o" Flare Blitz is your obvious STAB, and works with Reckless. Hammer Arm is another powerful STAB, and the Speed drop has no effect on this set (may help it in some cases). It also helps that high-HP Normal-Types can't switch in and kill you with your own recoil, on this attack~ Wild Bolt is for Water-Types, and is affected by Reckless, and finally, Head Smash is a high-power move that does massive damage to any non-resistant Pokemon (especially with it's typing), but returns 50% of the damage rather than 25%. To end this here, this is very hard to counter, and will kill many things if it can land the hit. Have fun~~ ;3

Hokai, guys! I hope you enjoyed this Pokemon of the Week! It's a bit late again, so I'm starting to wonder if I should make these Monday's or Sunday's tradition o3o" Or maybe random? Idk, I do enjoy randomness~ |'3 Anyway, I'll try not to ramble, since I always do.. o3o" I hope you guys enjoy this, and I promise next week's PotW will be a treat for Pokemon fans, and few will see it coming~ ;3 Feel free to comment and guess, and I may do something special if people guess right!

Until next time, battle on! Au wiedersehen! Ja ne! :3

  1. Very interesting... I've had doubts of Emboar, mainly the speed, but this has given me inspiration to use it as a Trick-roomer.

    Thank you n_n

Wow, really? I'm almost surprised that someone found good of this ^^" There may be hope yet!

Anyway, yeah! If you can handle the Speed, Emboar is an incredibly underrated Pokemon, and is awesome as a Trick Room receiver!
