Pokemon of the Week - Mantine

Mantine
Hallo, fellow members of the Hive! Yes, I'm back! I've been away for a while, but now I'm back to kick some butt in Wild Ca-- I mean... The Pokemon Hive! I figured that I may be able to manage posting at least a PotW post each week, along with other major things. I can't deny it, I've been lazy! ><" Anyway, I thought I'd do an entry for Mantine. Not the most powerful thing in the world, but I like him either way. And he steals Octillery's babbies! D8 (Yogscast fans will understand the "babbies" thing) Anyway, for my reasoning for this choice, click here. That's right, click right here!

Serebii.net - Mantine Pokedex Entry

Overview:
Now, today's lesson is set upon a very large manta ray. And as very happy-looking one at that! Mantine has Special Defenses to match even those of the physically-oriented Skarmory! Now as high as that may be, Mantine has a few fatal flaws. It's typing of Water/Flying leaves it vulnerable to Stealth Rock and come common weaknesses, as well as a crippling weakness to Electric. Without Electric and a resistance to Psychic, Mantine doesn't make too good of a wall for a team, but he has his upsides as well. Mantine's Special bulk allows him to easily switch into a Water-Type attack and be healed. And due to his Flying dual-type, he is an excellent switch-in to Grass or Water users like Gorebyss, and can even be safely witched into the oft-powerful Fighting-Type opponent! With immunity to non-rocky traps (the Spikes moves), Mantine can play a pivotal role on your team, if you play him right. Just remember, outside of Rest, he has no healing options, and low HP doesn't welcome that...

Base Stats:
HP - 65
Atk - 40
Def - 70
SpAtk - 80
SpDef - 140
Spd - 70

Movesets:

Mantine @ Leftovers

Ability: Water Absorb
EVs: 252 HP, 4 Def, 252 SpDef
Nature: Calm
- Rest
- Sleep Talk
- Scald
- Hidden Power Flying/Toxic

I found this set over on the Smogon site (loving their new BW analyses!), and I really liked the idea! Rest, as Mantine's only healing move, allows you to toss Status Ailments to the side as if they were nothing, and shrug off any non-Electric Special attack to come your way! Sleep Talk with Rest is an age-old strategy, and works well to keep Mantine alive during his nap. In the 5th Generation, Mantine gets a shiny new toy in the form of Scald, which is a godsend to this... ahem... physically-impaired manta ray. Scald gets nice STAB for decent power, and has a very attractive Burn rate. Any Physical Pokemon trying to take advantage of our friend will have to pray to Mew (I don't accept Arceus in that regard...) that they don't get Burned! If they do, Mantine may as well be facing a Special Luvdisc... Now, the last slot is your choice, but I prefer option #1 due to the lack of variety otherwise. Hidden Power Flying gives Mantine a fun tool against enemy Grass and Fighting Types, as well as select others. It will also do more damage to said Grass-Types than Ice Beam would, because of STAB. Toxic is still a great option nonetheless, and will tear through defensive walls and sponges that would normally tank Mantine to no end! So consider your options and your other teammates as per the usual, and make your decision. Honestly, a very fun set to use if you like Mantine! :3

I was thinking of doing another set here, but the thing is... Mantine's movepool is ginormous (did I really just say that?), but he lacks the offensive powers to utilize many of the moves in there. Signal Beam, Ice Beam, some great defensive moves that I would only recommend in a non-Sleep-Talk set, and many more. Just look through his movepool, and if your team has a specific problem with a Pokemon or two, see what Mantine can do to help! I mean, look at that happy/chubby face! He loves you! <3

Oh, and if you're using him in Pokemon Colosseum like in the beginning of my LP, then just go with your most powerful moves, since he's a bit lacking in that game. Blizzard works wonders with his typing as well!

I hope you guys have enjoyed my mini-comeback, and I look forward to hearing from you all! Have a nice day~! Gute nacht, y'all! :3

Character Ramble~!

Hallo, everybody! I don't know how many people are actively reading this, even out of my friends (with 1 follower). ^^;;

Anyway, I'd just like to ramble a bit on some characters. I checked Serebii and saw an update about the Pokemon manga, and I've always liked Silver's design in the manga, so it made me wanna write about them. |'D

So, I'd like to start this one out with a character we all know well! Ash Ketchum is a character that everyone who knows Pokemon should know. He's the one all little trainers want to be when they're growing up, and when they watch the anime. They want to go on his adventures, see what he sees, experience the world of Pokemon! Well... I know that's how I felt. To this day, I still think it would be the most awesome thing every to travel in the Pokemon World. I wish it were possible, honestly. Either way, there were a few things that I always liked about Ash. He always got to experience everything, he got to travel freely, he never gave up ever, and most of all... I want a Charizard! Haha, it's still a fave of mine~ Anyway, I urge you all to watch the anime! Even the new ones are good, though they fail when compared to the old! ^^"

I continue on with another huge favorite to many Pokemon fans! I even know a little someone who stopped watching the anime altogether once Misty left~! |'3 Anyway, Misty is another major character in the Pokemon series, and a lot of people were disappointed when she left Ash to go it alone, and headed back to Cerulean to take over the Gym. I am proud of her exploits and comedy through the series, and can honestly say Pokemon would not have been as good (anime-wise) without her~ And We all know we like her! glares at Misty haters Anyway, from her Horsea to her Staryu, her Psyduck to her Togepi, and even Politoed and Starmie... Her team is one to remember, and was always a major part of the series... See you another time, Misty!

And finally, another major character! This one makes more of a prominent stance in the games than the anime, though, but I believe he did once make an anime cameo (gotta check that fact). Anyway, this is Silver, one of the most well-known rivals in the entire series, beaten only by Gary Oak. He originated in Gold, Silver, and Crystal for the GBC, but was remade for the DS on HeartGold and SoulSilver. Not much is known about the young thief. And that has more meaning than it should. You don't even know his name the first time you see him! I'm guessing it's mostly due to his personality or possibly boredom of fans, but it seems that Silver is the one Rival in history that people most like to name badly. Whether it be profane or just stupid (I've actually seen someone name him "Stupid"), the strange names people give to Silver is more variant than on any other Rival. Along with this, over the course of the game he annoys you with high sense of power (even giving a quip of how losers get lucky sometimes, when you beat him in the Burnt Tower). Later on, you slowly notice how he changes from the horrible thief you made him out to be, into a more respectable, loyal, and even righteous young man. His change of goal and personality gives you a ton of respect for him later, and it saddens me that he does not follow you into the Kanto Region after you beat him in front of the Pokemon League. I'm at least glad you can fight him any time you desire, though~ Well, here's my favorite rival for ya'!

Well, there you go, guys! 3 characters from the games and anime series, and a lot of info and review about them! I hope you like this, and continue to read on! I'll see ya' all soon! :3

First Global Link Event

Eeveelutions
Hallo again, readers! :3

As my next post I decided to be a bit more... informative with it. As some of you may already know of, the new Pokemon Black & White games can connect online to an area called the Dream World, where we can send one of our Pokemon over WiFi, then play with it here on our computers!

Anyway, the Global Link (which is the host site of the Dream World) has not been activated in the US yet, and has been pushed back due to the recent disasters in Japan. Well, the Pokemon GL should be out soon enough, hopefully this month, and Nintendo has released their first GL-related Event for us! If you go onto the Pokemon Trainer's Club website (link below) and login, you get to play a game! It's a simple Brick-Breaker-esque game where you collect dropped orbs. Whichever orbs you collect the most of will determine the Eeveelution you get at the end (ie. more Water Orbs will give Vaporeon, more Psychic Orbs will give Espeon)! At the end, it tells you which Eeveelution you received, and you have the choice to keep that one, or play again for a new one. Caution! You only get to keep one that you choose, so choose wisely! Once you do this, you can later retrieve your new Pokemon, who will be waiting for you in the Dream World!

So, the thing about these special Pokemon is that they have their special Dream World abilities, which are otherwise unobtainable! Some of these are a bit trivial, while others help the Pokemon immensely! So, if you would like to go and play the game, use the link below and login to the Pokemon Trainer's Club. Have fun!

PS) I chose Umbreon~ ;3 May not have had the best DW Ability, but he's still my favorite!

Pokemon of the Week - Typhlosion

Typhlosion

As my very first Pokemon of the Week, I chose Typhlosion! It's one of my faves from Johto, but I chose it for a more... special occasion~ :3 Anyway, here's to starting my new blog! Cheers, all!

Overview:
Typhlosion has a great Special Attack stat and very nice Speed. Pair this up with a nice offensive movepool, and you got a good attacker in your party! With nice moves to implement like Eruption, Overheat, Focus Blast, and even Solarbeam, Typhlosion makes a well-rounded Fire-type Pokemon. Some things to watch out for are Stealth Rock, and Rock- and Dragon-Types. Typhlosion also makes a good Sunny Day user.

Base Stats:
HP - 78
Attack - 84
Defense - 78
Sp.Attack - 109
Sp.Defense - 85
Speed - 100

 Movesets:
Typhlosion @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 Sp.Atk, 252 Spd, 6 HP
Nature: Timid
- Eruption
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power Ice
- Overheat
Here's a pretty... standard Typhlosion set. Using his nice Special Attack and Speed to
his advantage, this set can hit pretty hard if used right. Eruption is there as a powerful
STAB move, and Typhlosion can move fast enough to hit before a lot of Pokemon can
damage him and reduce its power, especially with the Choice Band Speed boost. Focus
Blast is there primarily for Rock-Types that give Typhlosion so much trouble. Hidden
Power Ice is for Dragons that resist his other attacks. Overheat is like a backup STAB
move to use later in the battle, or if Typhlosion was already damaged after an Eruption.
Either way, the power here is incredible. The EV spread makes the most of his better
stats, and really helps with the moveset in general. Enjoy!

Typhlosion @ Life Orb
Ability: Blaze
EVs: 252 Sp.Atk, 36 Sp.Def, 220 Spd
Nature: Timid
- Fire Blast
- Hidden Power Rock
- Solarbeam
- Sunny Day
Here's another nice Special Attacking set. This one can hit much harder at times, but is
a little harder to set up (yet well worth it if you can). Once it does set up fully, this can
wipe teams clear off the map! The Life Orb will boost your attacking prowess, and as
long as you hit hard enough, it will eventually activate Blaze. Fire Blast is your standard
STAB move, and with Sunny Day and Blaze activated, very few Pokemon will be able
to survive the assault. Hidden Power Rock is for the Fire-Types that can completely wall
this set without it. And finally, Solarbeam allows for Typhlosion to reach new heights.
With this, he can injure those bulky Water-Types like Milotic and Tentacruel, plow
through Rock-Types like Regirock, and completely obliterate other threats like
Swampert and Omastar. As long as you can set this up, teams will be cowering before
this fiery weasel!

Well, there you have it! My very first Pokemon of the Week entry! I hope you guys like
it and find it useful~! My later PotW entries might have more detail as I think things up,
and if I ever improve some of my past entries, I'll post an update for you all! As for today,
Gute nacht~ :3
